Board of Education Vacancy
During a public meeting on February 25, 2026, District 49’s Board of Directors declared a vacancy in Director District 2 after the resignation of Director Deb Schmidt. In accordance with state law, this position will be filled by appointment within sixty days from this date, or by the Board President if the appointment is not made by the Board within the sixty-day time period.
Community members interested in serving on the Board of Education must complete an application packet consisting of the following:
- Affidavit of school director candidate qualifications
- Candidate questionnaire
- List of three references
- Letter of interest
- Resume
Interested persons are invited to submit a completed application packet to the Executive Assistant to the Board of Education by 4:00 p.m. on March 18, 2026.

To be eligible for this appointment, candidates must have lived in District 49 for at least 12 consecutive months prior to the appointment, be an eligible voter, and be a resident of Director District 2 (find the director district for your residence).
The BOE plans to interview prospective candidates at a special meeting to be scheduled once the applications have been submitted and reviewed. The remaining four members of the board plan to appoint a new director at a public meeting prior to the April 22, 2026, work session.
Candidates should be aware that the application materials they submit are open public records.
