District 49 is an extension of the community. Our residents are interested in their schools as an extension of their homes, an extension that exists to perform a special function in the development of their children. Therefore, in accordance with the strategic plan and the cultural compass, the Board shall make every attempt to:

1. Use the community’s input to affect policy-making decisions by providing opportunities to collaborate and share viewpoints.

2. Keep the public informed about policies, administrative operations, and educational programs of the schools.

3. Provide the means for furnishing full and accurate information, favorable and unfavorable, together with interpretation and explanation of school plans and programs.

In meeting these goals, the Board places great importance upon the role of the teacher as communicator and interpreter of the school program to parents and the general public.

The Board recognizes there are times when direct communication between school officials and the community is necessary. At such times, the Board shall encourage and provide these opportunities in person and online.

The chief officers and director of communications shall develop processes and procedures for insuring a continuous and free-flowing line of communication between the staff and the district’s residents using a variety of communication channels.
