SPC Dane R. Balcon Memorial Park

Woodmen Hills Community Park was renamed and dedicated to U.S. Army Spc. Dane R. Balcon during a ceremony Nov. 11, 2007. The park, renamed "Spc. Dane R. Balcon Memorial Park" is located on the corner of Kingston Heath and Lambert roads in the Woodmen Hills community. Balcon, 19, was killed Sept. 5, 2007, when an improvised explosive device went off near where he was working in Balad, Iraq. He had been stationed with the U.S. Army in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom for approximately two months when he was killed. Specialist Balcon earned several awards during his tour of duty, including a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart.
