Literacy is a process of reading, thinking critically and communicating around a variety of diverse and meaningful content. Through our POWER Zone performance dashboard survey, parents overwhelmingly explained their support for strong literacy skills. We couldn’t agree more. A child's future success rate across all core content areas has been closely related to their ability to read proficiently by third grade. We know reading proficiently by third grade does not happen for all children. However, the sooner we can get them to proficiency, the more likely they are to be successful once they begin to enter content specific courses in middle school and beyond.
Knowing this indicator is specifically of high importance in our community, we are driving more resources into this area across the K-12 spectrum. This focused effort will help ensure we are continually bringing our students towards reading proficiency, regardless of the student’s age.
