Treasurer Jamilynn D’Avola
Jamilynn D’Avola is a native of Colorado Springs and has lived in District 49 for the past 6 years. She is a very passionate teacher who has been educating elementary aged children for the last thirteen years. She graduated from UCCS with a Spanish degree and her elementary teaching license. She has worked in kindergarten, third, fourth, and fifth grade. She currently is the lead fifth grade teacher at James Irwin Charter Elementary School. She is also a teacher trainer at her school and helps the staff with their continued professional development.
She and her husband have been married for over 10 years. They have an daughter who is in elementary school. Jamilynn is a dedicated mother who wants the best education for her daughter. As a family, they enjoy being outdoors, playing sports, hiking, camping, watching baseball games, and going to Bandimere Speedway to watch the Nitro car races.
Jamilynn believes it is the parents who know what is best for their children. They have the right to choose how, when, what, and where their children learn. She believes that every child is an individual with great potential and promise. It is the role of teachers to come alongside parents to cultivate each child’s potential by showing them they can achieve their academic goals. Every child deserves an excellent education that prepares them for the future. This includes education on our U.S. Constitution, civics, and finance. She also believes that character is destiny, and it is important to model and teach students how to develop in their character. Additionally, the key to student success is teacher success. For teachers to be successful, they need to feel supported by their administration and their district. Jamilynn’s desire to be a voice for the parents of District 49 and to ensure that all D49 schools are focusing on the best practices for helping students reach academic success.
