At the age of eleven, my family immigrated to the United States. My father sacrificed much in order for his children to be able to grow up in a wonderful country filled with amazing opportunities in education and employment.
Most of my siblings stayed true to my father’s vision and landed great careers after college. After completing my Bachelors and Masters of Science, I received my commission as a Naval Officer and set out to have the most exciting adventures all over the world. I am very proud of my military service and I will always rise up to defend my country and the Constitution.
I often pondered then, even as I do now, where I would have been if I had not transplanted to America. I probably would not have finished high school being a female, and may be working in a sweatshop somewhere. I am very grateful and count my blessings every day. The stark contrast between my life and what could have been my life fuels my belief that America is in indeed a “land of golden opportunity" for everyone.
I truly believe that strong work ethics, self-reliance, and can-do attitude are critical ingredients to success in life regardless of origin and life circumstances. I raised my children on these values, and it is these same values that will shape my decision-making as a D49 School Board member. It is my vision and life mission to equip youth and future generations to embrace these values and life skills through individual counseling and our education system, so they too can experience a flourishing and meaningful life.
