You may be aware that a rumor is circulating among the student body at our school, particularly through social media, regarding a threat associated with the dates April 27 or April 28.
I would like to assure you that there is no substantial credibility to the rumor that has been circulating.
As you know, the safety of students, staff and visitors on our campus is priority one. It is not negotiable. After learning of the rumor Wednesday evening, April 26, precautionary steps were put in place this morning, including increased presence of school resource officers from the Colorado Springs Police Department. District 49 safety and security team members were also present.
While the intent was to put students at ease, the additional security worried some of our students and the rumor continued across our student body today. The purpose of this email is to let you know that there is nothing to substantiate the rumor that has been circulating.
We will continue to receive extra support from the District 49 safety and security team to ensure the safety of our students. We will always operate on heightened alert when issues like this are brought to our attention. Safety is not negotiable at Skyview Middle School.
Please reassure your child that they are safe at school. Take the opportunity to speak to your child about responsible use of social media and the danger of circulating rumors on digital platforms.
Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you for your assistance in helping to maintain a safe campus that creates ample opportunities for student learning.
