Welcome Back to the 2021-22 School Year

Hello families from our D49 Power Zone.  I’m Dan Snowberger, new Power Zone Superintendent, and I want to welcome you to the 2021-22 school year.  I wanted to share a few important points with you as we prepare for what promises to be a “normal” school year for students in District 49.  Our schools will reopen this year with no mask requirement and will operate on a full in-person schedule.  Limited remote options may be available for some students at the secondary level if interest is strong enough.

We know this past year has been a challenge for parents, students and staff and we are excited to return to some level of normalcy.  We will continue to practice good hand washing to limit the spread of germs in our schools.  Social distancing and masks are not required for the coming year.  Students, staff and visitors who wish to wear a mask will be permitted to do so.

In the Power Zone, our elementary schools will host an orientation on August 3.  This is unique to our zone and one way we differentiate from the general district calendar, so please mark your calendars accordingly.  Watch for more information on the time you and your child will be invited to meet their teacher in small groups with other children and families, and get oriented to our academic and school program for the year.  This is a great time to bring your child’s supplies and get them settled in their classroom for the coming school year.  All elementary students will begin full time on Wednesday, August 4.

At the secondary level, Skyview Middle and Vista Ridge High School will welcome 6th graders and 9th graders on Monday, August 2, while all other students will begin on Tuesday, August 3.  Please watch for more information from your schools on registration, schedule pick up, and other important beginning of the year information.

I do want to let our community know that we have a number of support staff positions open in our zone and finding individuals to fill these positions has been difficult.  These positions that include paraprofessionals, kitchen staff, bus drivers, and custodians.  They are great roles for parents who want to work during the school year when their children are at school, and be home when their children are not at school. These positions come with a great benefits package as well.

I’d like to invite parents who may be interested in learning more about these jobs to an information session on Friday, July 23 at 11:00 am at Stetson Elementary School located at 4910 Jedediah Smith Rd between Barnes and Stetson Hills.  Your children are welcome to join you and refreshments will be provided. This is a great chance to learn more about these critical roles and the positions currently open in our schools.  No past experience is required as training will be offered to all new staff.

I look forward to meeting you in the coming year.  Our school leaders, school staff and I look forward to seeing your children back in school.  We appreciate you entrusting your children to us. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me or any of our leaders should we be able to assist you and your family.

See you soon,
