A Special Delivery of Fantastic 49 Awards

Tamaya Bradley, staff at RES, receives a Fantastic 49 Award.

District 49 transitioned the Fantastic 49 presentation on March 14 to an online event as we wouldn’t let a winter storm keep us from celebrating several fantastic individuals. With staff and students returning from spring break this week, we finally had the opportunity to hand-deliver Fantastic 49 Awards to our March honorees.

Quinn Coleman, fifth grader at Springs Ranch Elementary, received Fantastic 49 accolades for choosing to give up recess time two days a week to help tutor second graders. “Quinn is a natural leader and was excited about this opportunity because she has made a special connection with a student who has Down Syndrome,” wrote Kristen Billingsley, Gifted and Talented Facilitator at SRES, in her nomination of Quinn. “She models the behavior of a student who wants to do her best.”

Tamaya Bradley, Assistant Early Childhood Educator at Remington Elementary, was thanked for her support of D49’s youngest learners. “Tamaya goes above and beyond to support students in any way she can,” shared Stacey Powell, Coordinator of Early Childhood Education. “Tamaya embodies passion and care when it comes to serving preschoolers. She performs her duties in the classroom with a level of expertise that you don’t often see. Tamaya works very hard and pushes children to challenge themselves.”

Marvin Davis, community volunteer, received honors for his contributions in helping make the preschool classroom at Remington Elementary a great place to learn. “Mr. Davis goes above and beyond for our preschool,” wrote Elizabeth Albers, Early Childhood Education Teacher at RES, in her nomination of Davis. “He helps by providing supplies, shoveling snow, fixing our outside fence, and anything else that he sees. He is always available, kind, generous, and overall, a great person.”

The Falcon High School Boys Basketball Team received a Fantastic 49 Award for demonstrating what it means to be role model student-athletes. “I received an email from the athletic director at Mitchell High School. She wrote me to say, ‘thank you,’ to our team of basketball players and coaches for their amazing support and fan participation during a unified basketball game,” shared Chad Belveal, Athletic Director at FHS, in his nomination. Unified basketball games bring together student-athletes with special needs and able-bodied athletes on one team to compete. The FHS team genuinely cheered on and encouraged players with special needs at the game, prompting leaders in the neighboring school district to take notice and applaud their kindness.

Fantastic 49 is the district's recognition program that celebrates fantastic staff, students, parents, and community members before Board of Education meetings. A sincere thank you to Air Academy Credit Union, Dion's, and Texas Roadhouse for donating gift cards for honorees.
