Transportation Department Spreads Holiday Cheer

Preparing for Santa's Express event.
District 49’s Transportation Department’s annual Santa’s Toy Express event was Saturday, Dec. 3, at the district transportation department in Peyton.

District 49's Elevate Transition Program students and coordinators/teachers helped decorate Mr. and Mrs. Claus' room for the big event.

This is the 21st year for the event, organized and run by D49 staff and district and community volunteers. District schools select elementary students in need to participate in the event. This year, 48 students received a backpack, winter coat, blanket, stocking, and a gift from the Angel Tree (donated gifts from D49 employees).

Bags of Christmas gifts are ready for students.

Students shopped at Walmart in Peyton, Colorado with $50 gift cards and with a volunteer at the store for gifts for family members.

Students enjoyed a free breakfast, a shopping trip to Walmart, gift wrapping family gifts with volunteers, crafts, and a visit with Mr. and Mrs. Claus, where they received their gifts.

The transportation department thanks all staff and community volunteers for their help and generous donation of time, gifts, and money. The department raised $7,000 this year to go towards gifts, food, and activities for the students.

Volunteers make breakfast for the event attendees.. Girl wraps gifts she purchased for her family members.. Santa and Mrs. Claus arrive at the festive holiday event.. Volunteers dress is festive attire for the special event.
