D49 Students Flex Their Art Skills for Bus Safety
Some young artists from School District 49 are the proud winners of D49’s National School Bus Safety Week poster contest. A big congratulations goes out to:
- Mattias Boyd, 5th grade, Springs Ranch Elementary School
- Lane Scott, 1st grade, Springs Ranch Elementary School
The D49 transportation team revived this fun and engaging opportunity in the fall of 2021, inviting schools to participate in the National School Bus Safety Week Poster Contest. These D49 student-artists now have the chance to have their work featured in a national campaign for school bus safety.
Students were invited last fall to create posters fitting the theme of: 1 Bus + 1 Driver = a BIG Impact on Education. The transportation team posted the work that came in from participating schools on the walls of their conference room.
Visitors to the transportation department through the month of March voted for their favorite from 256 posters submitted. The transportation team will submit the winning students’ posters to the state poster competition in June. All poster contest winners also received a professional art kit on behalf of the transportation department, which were presented during an informal award ceremony this week at school.
The National Association for Pupil Transportation (NAPT) will feature the national poster winner during National School Bus Safety Week, which is an active and evolving public education program designed to promote school bus safety. This annual event is held during the third full week in October each year.
