New Year, New Leadership for Stetson Elementary

Stetson Raiders returned for another year of learning Aug. 2. The day marked a fresh start for both students and Principal Beth Dowdy, who will serve as the school’s new leader for the 2019-20 school year. Dowdy comes to District 49 after serving most recently in District 20 as an assistant principal.

Gia De Leon, first-grader, poses for camera on first day at SES Aug. 2.

Building positive relationships with students, families and staff is a priority for Dowdy. Along with Eddy McGee, assistant principal at SES, she visited classrooms on day one to meet the school’s young learners. “There is power in believing that what we do makes a difference,” she shared.

Dowdy has nearly 20 years of experience in education and believes in growing the whole child. “I believe that social-emotional and physical wellness are critical to academic success.”

Students across the school played games to meet new friends and engaged in activities to help teachers in getting to know their learners.

“I believe Stetson Elementary is a community of excellence,” Dowdy remarked. To continue that tradition, the new leader welcomes involvement and feedback from parents for the new year ahead.

Emmy Sills, fourth-grader, prepares her homework folder on first day at SES Aug. 2.  . Mrs. Kelley shares a story with students on the first day Aug. 2 at SES.  . Students give the teacher their full attention on the first day at SES Aug. 2.
