Power Technical (often referred to as PTEC) is the youngest James Irwin Charter Schools network school. In 2015, D49 agreed to authorize James Irwin’s trade school with the Pathways in Technology Program. This morning, May 20, thirty-one PTEC students graduated from high school, with five completing their associate degrees in applied science at Pike Peak State College. The class of 2023 is the third graduating PTEC class earning applied science associate degrees.

This is the first PTEC graduating class, including eleven students who started the PTEC program as sixth-graders when the school opened. The eleven students wore red sashes designating legacy students. PTEC teacher Michael McChesnie addressed students in a keynote speech, saying, “ At PTEC, you, students, have built your own legacies. Over half of the class of 2023 have earned 485 college credits at Pikes Peak State College. Other students are earning trade and industry certifications in construction and computer skills. You’re accomplishing great things.”

Graduating senior Noah Christakis addressed his fellow graduates, saying proudly, “It’s been a pleasure to be part of this legacy class. Let’s not take for granted the opportunity we have had here at PTEC, and the trades pathway is a great opportunity.”

Of special note, PTEC is one of three trade schools nationwide selected to be part of a documentary filmed on campus by Honest Films, based out of Denver. The full-length feature film should be available in the next couple of years.

“Take one day at a time and not the entire year to focus on having a servant’s heart,” said PTEC principal LeErica Warren. “Our mission here at PTEC was not to just help you gain a skill or trade but to make you a person of character…go out and make things happen.”
