D49 Recognizes Staff Members Who Exemplify Excellence

Karen Hobson, administrative assistant at Falcon Middle School, receives honors during Fantastic 49 Jan. 9.

Team members work hard every day to make District 49 the “Best Choice to Learn, Work and Lead.” The board of education honored four staff members during Fantastic 49 festivities Jan. 9 for delivering quality work filled with care and compassion.

The event kicked off by recognizing Karen Hobson, administrative assistant at Falcon Middle School. Shari Arnot, library aide, nominated Hobson for her work with the parent teacher student association and Veterans Day activities at FMS. “Karen keeps kids first,” shared Brian Smith, executive principal, Firebird Nation Campus. “Every day she communicates positively, and works to engage parents and community members.”

Karen Sandidge, dean at PEAK Education Center, honored Kevin Westmoreland, paraprofessional, for the care and respect he shows both students and colleagues. “Kevin is quiet, but highly influential. Staff and students seek him out for assistance, conversation and even a hug,” commented Sandidge. “He treats all students with respect, no matter the situation.”

The board recognized two staff members from central office to round out the celebration. Sam Dosen-Himelrick, digital communications manager, earned kudos for her extensive work developing the D49 app and refreshing d49.org. “The labor that was involved in both of those projects was enormous,” remarked David Nancarrow, director of communications. “Without that, we wouldn’t have the final product we see today.”

Amy Bremser, media/broadcast specialist, was acknowledged for her dedication to producing high-quality videos to represent D49. Bremser created a video for the 2019 all-staff event and video content for the new website. “You have a keen eye for talent and for detail,” commented Dave Cruson, BOE treasurer. “You know how to put that in a positive light for students and staff, and I appreciate that.”

Rick Van Wieren, BOE secretary, congratulates exceptional D49 team members during the Fantastic 49 presentation Jan. 9.  . Sam Dosen-Himelrick, digital communications manager, receives kudos from John Graham, board of education president, Jan. 9.  . Kevin Westmoreland, paraprofessional at PEAK Education Center, is honored during the Jan. 9 Fantastic 49 celebration.
