BOE Honors, Thanks Staff Members During Fantastic 49

Jeri DeGeorge Three District 49 staff members were honored June 14 for their achievements in the district prior to the regular monthly Board of Education meeting.

Nancy Lemmond, executive director of individualized learning, presented the first award of the night to Jeri DiGeorge, job transition coach, who was recognized for her commitment to serving special needs students. Her work has been noticed throughout the community as last spring Kidpower of Colorado honored DiGeorge with their Darcell Palmer Award for Integrity.

“The selflessness that Jeri possesses and provides to our students and community on a daily basis is beyond humbling,” said Lemmond, who was quoting Jeri’s supervisor, Ethan Steinberg. ”Jeri always works with the constant thought of, ‘What will our students need to be successful in the future?’”

Pam Lewis was acknowledged for her contributions as an innovation specialist in the POWER Zone. Lewis helped develop student portfolios to guide learners throughout their educational experience in D49. In addition, she created personalized learning opportunities for district staff.

The final honoree of the evening was Cathy Tinucci, principal at Skyview Middle School. Tinucci was another significant contributor to the innovator pathway and portfolio work in the POWER Zone.

“Pam and Cathy are being honored tonight for really fulfilling some of the zone’s values and mission we’ve been working on for years,” said Mike Pickering, power zone leader. “One of the pieces we’ve been working on as a zone is to define more authentic ways to demonstrate student’s learning and create bodies of evidence for student’s learning.”

Sarah Temple, dean of pathway learning at Vista Ridge High School, was also recognized for her work on the student portfolio project, but was unable to be present.
