Homeschool Students Honored at Completion Ceremony
It’s the season for celebrating the milestone of completing a K-12 education. For area homeschool students, graduation is no exception. Five homeschool high school seniors were honored for their completion during a special ceremony May 19 at the Creekside Success Center.
Parents of the students presented their certificates of completion, and shared endearing comments and memories about each one of them. Aleah Johnson, a local former homeschool student herself, was the keynote speaker. Johnson encouraged the students to dream big and not second guess. “And thank your parents for this amazing experience of homeschool,” Johnson commented.
All the graduates shared personal displays at the event about their unique interests, accomplishments and future plans. One commonality with all the students - continuing their education.
Tarryn Klinitski plans to attend Pikes Peak Community College and has her sights set on transferring to Colorado State University to study zoology.
Mattison Heckel will study first at Pikes Peak Community College and intends to transfer to Colorado State University for wildlife biology studies.
Noah Gonzalez is aspiring to a career in criminal justice, which will include earning a degree from University of Colorado at Colorado Springs.
Megan Brukiewa plans to work toward a degree in computer science with a minor in Japanese.
Madison Smith is heading to Pikes Peak Community College to learn from their sign language interpreting program. “I took it as a language elective and loved it, so I am pursuing that as my career," Smith stated.
Katie Boal, Falcon Homeschool Program principal, remarked that these graduates share the homeschool experience with many notable individuals including Benjamin Franklin, author Charles Dickens, athlete Tim Tebow and performer Whoopi Goldberg. “We know these kids are so very special,” Boal shared. “We know that the kids are now and will be marvelously successful in the future.”
