Bus Driver Referral Program 2020 (BDRP)
District 49 needs new bus drivers. Like many school districts, we are facing a shortage, and we need your help finding additional drivers.
The District 49 Bus Driver Referral Program (BDRP) rewards YOU, members of our current workforce, who help us find new drivers. Miles of rewards could be yours as you can earn up to $500 for each new driver referred. Rules and restrictions apply. Get on the bus, and refer a new driver today!
Program Purpose and Description
Bus drivers are essential to achieving our vision to be the best choice. Due to various factors, D49 currently faces a significant shortage of drivers, unlike we have experienced before. The purpose of the Bus Driver Referral Program (BDRP) is to reward our current workforce members who help us find quality bus driver candidates.
When a current D49 employee refers a bus driver applicant who a) successfully completes required training, b) is hired as a D49 full-time employee and c) completes the defined retention period, the referring employee is eligible to receive up to three referral bonus payments.
Who is eligible for the referral program bonus?
All District 49 employees are eligible for referral bonus pay, except:
- Chief officers
- Transportation department director and managers
- Human resources director
There is no limit on the number of candidates a D49 employee may refer under this program. All referred applicants will be screened and selected for hire based on their qualifications and fitness for the bus driver position.
Who can be referred?
You may refer anyone who meets the minimum qualifications to be a bus driver, EXCEPT for individuals who have previously worked as a bus driver in D49, or who have applied to be a bus driver in the last year.
What do I get for referring a bus driver?
If D49 hires a person referred by you, you will be eligible for a referral bonus of up to $500, split into a series of payments, explained below:
- First Payment: A referring employee will be paid $100 when a person they referred is hired and begins the training process. If the referred individual does not complete training, or is not retained after the training period, the referring employee will still receive the first payment.
- Second Payment: After the referred individual completes initial training, is assigned a route and competes six months of driving, the referring employee will be paid another $150.
- Third Payment: After the referred individual completes 12 months of driving, the referring employees will receive $250.
How do I get credit for the referral?
To get credit for a referral, the APPLICANT MUST IDENTIFY IN THEIR ONLINE APPLICATION that you are the person who referred them. Applicant must place name of referring employee in the “Referral” section of the online application. If the applicant writes the name of more than one person, no referral bonus will be paid.
Are there any other program rules?
- Referral bonuses earned will be paid at the next regularly scheduled pay date following when the referral bonus is earned.
- Bonuses are paid as wages and are subject to payroll deductions.
- There is no cap on the number of referrals an employee can make. All rewards will be paid accordingly.
- This program will be activated and deactivated as operational needs dictate. That applies to both the length of activation, the number of positions needed and to position requirements. For example, if bus drivers are in short supply, the referral program may be activated for only that position, for a specified period or until a certain number of drivers are hired.
