Harmonizing Comms Role & Passion for Music
Some singers only dream of sharing the stage with stars like the Beach Boys, Lee Greenwood and JoDee Messina. Not every performer has people from the Pro Bowl Opening Ceremony and professional baseball clubs requesting them by name to sing the National Anthem.
For Lara Murdzia, communications team administrative assistant, the dream of making music a key part of life is reality. She keeps the D49 communications team organized by day, and by night on weekends, she performs as a singer.
Murdzia got her professional start at age 16 performing as a lead vocalist for rock bands and big bands in South Dakota. At 20, she enlisted in the United States Air Force as an active duty regional band vocalist and was assigned to bands in Nebraska and Hawaii. Murdzia toured extensively throughout the U.S., Europe, Panama, Australia, Wake Island and Singapore, and deployed three times touring southwest Asia to bring a piece of home to the troops.
As a military public affairs representative, Murdzia helped communicate positive messages about the U.S. Air Force through performing. “I helped put a personality for all military in front of the community … people connect with music,” she shared. While serving, Murdzia sang to patients in the hospital and to service men and women in the field. A favorite performance took place at an orphanage in Africa. “The kids didn’t speak English, but we communicated through music,” she commented.
Murdzia is a lead vocalist currently with a local band, Just Dance. The group is a high-energy, dance-driven cover band that combines their diverse musical backgrounds, unique talents and international performing experience. Learn more about Just Dance at www.justdancecolorado.com.
