Unified Basketball Players Shine at VRHS

Vista Ridge High School students joined together to play a Unified basketball game exhibition, Feb. 5.

Unified Basketball is part of the Special Olympics’ Unified Sports program that promotes inclusion through sports, joining students with and without disabilities on the same athletic team.

The goal and purpose of Unified Sports participation is to encourage training together and playing together as a quick path to friendship and understanding.

“The goal is to get together, and one, unite…so they come together as one team which is really amazing,” said team coach and Vista Ridge High School teacher, Matt Allender.

The team plays a few games during the Vista Ridge varsity basketball season in preparation for their big game against the El Paso County Sheriff's Office, that game will be held Wednesday April 24th at Vista Ridge High School.
