Scorpions Link Up for Class of 2022
Welcome to the Sand Creek family. That was the sentiment delivered by many to incoming freshmen Aug. 1. “This is an exciting day,” remarked Audra Lane, campus director at SCHS. “It’s fun to see all the energy.”
Staff members, cheerleaders, band members and the Link Crew were all on hand to celebrate the arrival of the newest scorpions for orientation day. Link Crew, a student-led upperclassmen group, helps incoming students feel comfortable at their new school.
“Sand Creek is where you want to be,” acknowledged Ashley Jones-Sykes, sophomore. “Our student body is what makes it.”
The new class experienced teambuilding activities and were encouraged for life at their new school. “Today is about getting them ready for the challenge that is high school,” said Stephen Swanson, one of two coordinators for the Link Crew program.
Along with the assembly, freshmen enjoyed lunch with Link Crew leaders, received schedules and had the opportunity to locate their classes before all students returned Aug. 2.
“I am excited … I get to figure out where everything is, so that I don’t get lost tomorrow,” shared Victoria McCafferty, freshman.
The incoming class has 339 ninth graders, which will make it the largest class at SCHS for the 2018-19 school year.
