As most of the Colorado community is aware of media reports regarding the concern of a credible safety threat to Denver-metro area schools and the closures that have followed, we want to take this opportunity to share our efforts at D49.
The information provided by the FBI and Colorado Department of Public Safety indicates the threat is focused on the Denver-metro area. Our law enforcement partners with the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office and Colorado Springs Police Department tell us there is no indication of a similar threat to our community.
At this point our posture remains normal, but we are operating on heightened alert. We are committed to ensuring a safe environment awaits every learner, employee and visitor to D49 schools. Student safety is top priority in District 49. All staff members undergo regular safety training regarding the policies and procedures that keep students, staff and visitors safe in district facilities. We appreciate each partnership in our community that helps keep our schools safe, so our students can focus on learning.
It is important to stress the Colorado Springs Police activity in the Sand Creek Zone has nothing to do with the alert to schools in the Denver Metro area.
As always, we thank you for your trust and understanding as we balance our top priorities of safety and our commitment to provide the best education to every D49 learner.
