Homeschoolers Dig Into Fossils During Enrichment
Third-grader Adam Vredeveld, 8, discusses dinosaur extinction Sept. 18 at the Falcon Homeschool Program facility in District 49. He hypothesized about conditions causing a lethal combination of blowing sand and volcanic ash.
Next week, he’ll travel with his classmates to the Florissant Fossil Beds National Park in Divide, Colo. The park is known as one of the richest and most diverse fossil deposits in the world.
Teacher Tamela Verlare meets with each homeschooler once per week to enrich their social studies and science units. Parents can participate in classroom activities, or rely on updates provided in weekly class newsletters.
When the homeschool program started four years ago, just over 30 students were involved. FHP teachers are now assisting with more than 200 students.
