The Girls’ Cross Country A Team at Skyview Middle School wrapped up their season with a first place finish at the Tri-County League Meet Sept 30 in Elizabeth. This marks the first cross country league championship in SMS history.
"In my eight years of coaching cross country, this is the most talented group of runners I've coached,” said Tony Marino, SMS cross country coach. “You don't get a group of runners like this too often."
There were nine schools in attendance competing at the meet. Skyview Middle School finished first with a team score of 27.
Three individual team members placed in the top 10 – Maddy Blazo, 13, eighth grader - second place; Bryesen Roman, 13, eighth grader - fourth place; and Katherine Palmer, 14, eighth grader - seventh place.
"Everyone worked together as a team, and it showed when we won the championship,” shared Bryesen Roman. “It was a special season,” added Coach Marino.
