The collision of a Friday in late September with D49 tradition resulted in a memorable homecoming at Sand Creek High School.
The Scorpions (0-4) hosted the Hinkley Thunderbirds (4-0) in a non-conference match in front of a home crowd of cheering SCHS fans. The Thunderbirds jumped out in front to an early lead 14-0 going into the half.
Halftime featured the typical homecoming pomp and circumstance as the SCHS homecoming court walked arm-in-arm down midfield to gather for the announcement of this year’s selected King and Queen.
The SCHS 2018 Homecoming Court included:
Freshman Lord: Ammal Hobdy
Freshman Lady: Marissa Griffith
Sophomore Duke: Harold Serrano
Sophomore Duchess: Jaide Howell
Junior Princess: Antanaysiah Singletary
Junior Prince: Charles Lyons
Seniors Logan Blantz and Ky’Ajia Love were crowned King and Queen for 2018. “Freshman year we knew [we could be King and Queen],” said Love. They said a close bond inspired their confidence. “Friendship,” Blantz said. “Just friendship.”
The Scorpions jumped on the board in the second half coming within two scores of defeating the Thunderbirds, but ultimately came out on the wrong side of the homecoming game, 30-14.
