Vista Ridge High School senior Mark Wilson, 17, was one of two AFJROTC cadets in District 49 to earn a private pilot’s license over summer break. Wilson attended Liberty University in Lynchburg, VA for an accelerated pilot’s license training program. The program is funded by the U.S. Air Force to address its pilot shortage and build interest in aviation among youth.
“I get to fly a plane by myself before I get to drive by myself and I thought that was pretty cool,” says Wilson. “I’m really excited to be back…I feel like I have, like my next four years, put together.”
Wilson, who is also vice president of the school’s National Honor Society, plans to attend the United State Air Force Academy in 2019.
