Air Force Band Brings ‘Holly and Ivy’ Back to District 49

Roughly 250 fifth graders arrived from Springs Ranch Elementary School, Remington Elementary School and Evans International Elementary School in District 49.
Ray Bell, instrumental music director at Sand Creek High School, said watching “some of the best musicians in the world” offered a unique and powerful opportunity.
“We recruit fifth grade students to join band and orchestra in sixth grade, so this is giving them an opportunity to get exposed to an amazing band,” said Bell.
More than 400 people are expected to attend each sold-out evening performance Dec. 16-18. It’s the second year that “Holly and Ivy" concerts have been hosted at Sand Creek High School.
The concerts kicked off Dec. 11 at the Colorado State Fairgrounds in Pueblo. The Academy Band has used music to inspire service members and their communities for 60 years.
