Thomas Recognized by BOE for Musical Achievements, Scholarship Win
Twelfth-grader Connor Thomas, 18, performed with an alto saxophone during “Fantastic 49” recognition Feb. 12, ahead of a monthly Board of Education meeting in District 49.
Thomas, who’s known to master any instrument he focuses on, recently auditioned at the Festival of Winds at Colorado State University in Pueblo. His performance resulted in earning an $11,000 scholarship from the university’s music department.
Thomas began playing the saxophone in sixth grade, as part of the Horizon Middle School band program. At Sand Creek High School, he’s joined jazz band, wind ensemble, symphonic band, orchestra and marching band.
