"It's a great chance for our kids to be out and compete against other schools," said Kara Woolery, Evans International Elementary School counselor, "They are showing us what they can do and are such upstanding young people. It's a nice way to end the year."
Approximately 450 students from District 49 elementary schools met for friendly competition at Sand Creek High School May 14. The annual event is in its 13th year.

"To be our here racing with my friends is amazing," said Augistin Rivera from Ridgeview Elementary School, "it's really fun to see how all of these schools come out here and train so hard."
"It makes me feel lime I'm really athletic and fast," Dillon Snow, a Remington Elementary School fifth-grader, said. Snow ran the 4x100 meter relay with other students from the school.
Students participated in a myriad of foot races and relays, shot put, long jump softball throw and frisbee toss on a comfortable overcast day. Results can be downloaded here (PDF).
"It's a time to compete and make new friends," said Lea Winner, a fourth grade student at Ridgeview Elementary, after a softball throw. "You've got to be a good sport and help other people."
Students were paired in groups by grade as they moved between the different events. "This is a great opportunity for some of these kids that will be classmates in middle school next year to get to know each other," said Matt Monfre, physical education teacher at Stetson Elementary.
"It's pretty fun to try and be competitive against everyone," Evan Gee, Meridian Ranch Elementary School fifth grader said with a smile after participating in an event.
