Odyssey Elementary School Holds Hero Day Activities

Matt Bergland
Matt Bergland, flight paramedic, meets with students after landing in an air medical helicopter for Hero Day activities Sept. 11 at Odyssey Elementary School in District 49. A four-person team with Memorial Star, operated by Med-Trans, landed in a nearby park to greet lines of preschool through fifth grade students. The team typically flies within a 150-mile radius of Memorial Hospital in Colorado Springs, said Bergland. They respond to critically ill or injured patients, as well as complete hospital-to-hospital transfers. The students also met firefighters from the Colorado Springs Fire Department, Station 17. They later held a hero tribute celebration, followed by a “brave and bold” parade.
