Gilbert Honored by BOE for Academic Progress, Educational Leadership
Tenth-grader Caleb Gilbert, 15, of Vista Ridge High School explained how assistive technologies have supported his academic career during “Fantastic 49” recognition Feb. 12, ahead of a monthly Board of Education meeting in District 49.
Gilbert was recognized for his upcoming "experience with technology" talk Feb. 13 at University of Colorado Colorado Springs. As a student who’s excelled with visual impairments, he’ll speak with a group of southern Colorado teachers.
Gilbert is planning to pursue a criminal justice career, possibly join the FBI.
He thanked the district and his teachers, including Diane Fitzkee, who assists students with visual impairment and attended the meeting with him. Fitzkee has been a part of Gilbert’s academic progress since he enrolled for preschool at Ridgeview Elementary School.
