Hornberger Honored by District 49 BOE During 'Fantastic 49'
Board of Education directors recognized "Fantastic 49" educators ahead of a monthly meeting Aug. 14 in District 49.
Jeanne Hornberger, kitchen manager at Sand Creek High School, received national recognition for her successes in school nutrition last school year at Skyview Middle School.
Hornberger explained to Board of Education directors how she earned a Louise Sublette Award of Excellence in School Nutrition, considered the highest honor a school nutrition manager can earn.
The national, nonprofit School Nutrition Association honored Hornberger this summer in Boston, highlighting her exemplary efforts. The award recognizes those who demonstrate dedication and ingenuity while successfully implementing a project to improve school meals.
Hornberger pioneered a breakfast program — in coordination with the school’s health team, faculty and parents — that earned a Colorado Healthy School Champions award.
During the 2014-2015 school year, she’s serving students at Sand Creek High School.
