Woodmen Hills Elementary School music teacher Melissa Ellenberger is one of 25 national semi-finalists for the 2017 Music & Arts Music Educator of the Year competition.
The award recognizes music teachers across the country for their outstanding achievement in music education. A committee of retired music educators and well-known music industry affiliates will judge nominees from across the country.
The winner will receive $1000.00 to purchase orchestra and band equipment, a trophy, and will be featured in the Music and Arts “Sound Teaching” newsletter.
Ellenberger said she enjoys seeing her students grasp a music concept and when they come back and say, “"Remember when we did this? "I wanna be a music teacher now because we did this!"
“I like her because she makes music really fun and easy to learn.,” said third-grader Blake Maestas, 9.
The winner and runner-ups announced Dec. 21, 2017, at the annual Music & Arts Midwest reception in Chicago, Illinois.
