CHSAA Postpones Sports Seasons, Updates Calendar

D49 learned CHSAA postpones 20-21 sports season image Tuesday, August 4, of the Colorado High School Activities Association (CHSAA) decision to postpone multiple fall sports until the spring of 2021, including football. Like we do, our partners at CHSAA value above all the health and safety of our student athletes. According to a statement from CHSAA, because of “the restrictive nature of the current state guidelines, and the ability to follow Colorado Department of Education requirements, all contact sports have been moved to a season which will commence later in the calendar, and allow for playoffs and culminating events without creating new conflicts.” CHSAA, in collaboration with a team of experts including Governor Jared Polis, the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, and the state’s COVID-19 Response team agreed to adjust the calendar in the interests of safety for sports programs and all participants state-wide. Accordingly, D49 will follow the modified 2020-21 sports schedule. Click here to read the official CHSAA announcement.

“We understand the disappointment for those who put in the work to compete this fall. We feel it too, but we agree postponing until next spring gives us the best opportunity to have a safe and healthy season,” said Sand Creek High School Athletic Director Brian Petzold on behalf of the D49 team of AD’s.

The adjusted calendar will accommodate Softball, Cross Country, Boys Golf, and Boys Tennis as scheduled this fall. The complete 20-21 calendar is below. Please note: Transportation to athletic events will not be provided weekdays, and weekends will be staffed by availability. Please keep in close contact with your coaches and program supervisors for specifics including schedules, transportation and any additional updates.
