Hello bobcat families!
With the start of the new school year, it is a good time to share D49's attendance expectations for the year that our school follows. The end goal is to have children in school; consistent school attendance is critical to the success of students in the classroom. Research shows that children chronically absent in the early years of school are 4 times more likely to fall behind in school and need interventions. When students are absent, they miss important lessons, social interactions and skills needed to move toward more advanced skills. Teachers are not able to fill in these gaps without consistent attendance. It is crucial that your child is here everyday.
We understand that children do get sick; and we encourage you to keep your children home when they are sick.
SRES/D49 Attendance Policy and Procedures:
Students are considered chronically absent after missing 10% of the school year (15- 18 days for the full year).
-
The first attendance letter is sent when a child accumulates 3 unexcused or 7 combined absences (excused or unexcused);
-
A second attendance letter will be sent to families if a student continues to miss school. A second letter will be sent if a student misses 5 unexcused days or a combination of unexcused and excused equaling 10 days;
-
An attendance contract will be created once a child misses 15 days of school (excused or unexcused).
We send a letter even if you have made the school aware of absences. We feel it is important for both school and home to remain cognizant of the number of absences and tardies accumulated. If possible, schedule vacations and appointments during school breaks and holidays or after school hours to cut down on the amount of absences throughout the year. Please make sure your children arrive on time to school. Tardies do add up to “absences” and chronic tardies can result in over a week of lost instructional time throughout the year!
Please call the school by 9:00 a.m. to report an absence at 719-494-8600.
We appreciate your attention and support in this matter. We're looking forward to a great year!
Thank you once again for partnering with us.
