Skyview Middle School E-Learning
Message from School Leadership
Tuesday, May 12, 2020
Dear Skyview Families,
As we near the end of our e-learning quarter, again, I want to thank you for your patience and support for what seems like all things new. We have learned a lot about teaching virtually and the incredible resilience of our families at Skyview. With 8 days of school remaining, I have some clarifying information for you and your students:
May 15th: This is the last day for NEW INSTRUCTION only. The following week is intended for final exams, project turn-in and makeup work turn in. The last day of school is May 22 (not the 15th). Please encourage your student to complete all work that has been assigned and get it turned in to their teachers. We will not be taking attendance the last week of school so there will not be a need for filling out attendance forms.
Final Grades: Grades will be available in PowerSchool after May 27th at 3:30pm. All grades are available in a virtual format. If you do not have access to the Parent Portal of PowerSchool, please contact Christy Marry, Registrar at email@example.com.
Drive-By Pick up/Drop off: Location is in the rear Bus Lot. Please see the information at the end of this email. This is an opportunity for students to pick up locker contents and drop off school items. Please follow the schedule and remain in the vehicle.
Yearbooks: UPDATE: Due to COVID related production issues, our yearbooks have not been printed yet and consequently will NOT be available for pick up at our Drive-By days. When they do come in, you will be informed about how and when to pick them up.
District Chromebook Drop off: If you borrowed a Chromebook or Hot spot from District 49, please do not attempt to return that to Skyview. You will need to follow the schedule/information posted on the district website: District 49 COVID 19 Page
Skyview iPad Drop off for 8th grade iPad Team 8B Only: You have a mandatory drop off on May 21 from 8:00 am -11:30 am and 12:30 pm - 4:00 pm (Last Call for 8th grade only). Please consult your team newsletters on how to prepare your iPad for turn-in.
Summer Communication: Please make sure to continue to view your emails from Skyview throughout the summer. There will be important announcements/instructions concerning the start of school in the fall, information about yearbook pick up, and other important dates as they are known. Please see below for some family and community projects to support Capturing Kids Hearts curriculum. Also, I have repeated the Drive-By email from last week for further reference.Respectfully,Cathy Tinucci, Principal
» Family Challenge:
Have a conversation with your children about self-control and teach them to use the "Four Questions" to help them reflect and self-regulate when they get off track. Encourage your child to ask himself or herself: 1. What am I doing? 2. What am I supposed to be doing? 3. Am I doing that? 4. What can I do about it? Remind your child that when they make a wrong choice, they can always change direction!
» Community Challenge: Ask students to identify one way they can positively impact their community and write a specific goal. It takes self-control to set goals and take deliberate steps to reach that goal.DRIVE-BY Pick Up/Drop Off - Skyview Rear Bus LotWe are going to offer an opportunity for families to pick up any personal items from school in a DRIVE-BY pick up and drop off of school items that need to be returned. This is an OPTIONAL pick up - If you do not have any locker items to pick up AND you do not need to return anything to school, please do not attend this event to minimize long lines. Students and families are to remain in the vehicle at all times.
