  • Unexpected Passing of PHS Student

Posted by David Nancarrow on 4/4/2020

    Dear Patriot High School Family,

It is with great sadness that we inform you that our Patriot High School Family has had a significant loss. One of our students, Alana "Lani" Murri, passed away on Friday, 4/3 due to a health related issue not related to COVID_19. Lani was a cheerful and popular student at PHS and she will be greatly missed.

Please take some time to discuss this news with your child(ren) and ensure that they are safe and under adult supervision at all times while they grieve the loss of their classmate. We have provided resources that may help families with ideas on how to discuss this loss with your child on the PHS website.

District 49’s crisis response team will be available starting Monday 4/6.  Due to our e-work protocol, they will facilitate time with students (via Zoom meetings). If you or your student would like to talk with someone, please email a counselor from the list provided in the email to all PHS parents. Someone from the team will set up a time to meet with the student and/or parents via a Google calendar invite. Parents will receive an invitation to attend the meeting as a notification that the meeting will be occurring but are not necessarily required to attend the meeting. A team member will call the parent of any student accessing crisis counseling so that the parent is aware of how best to support their child during this difficult time.

If your student needs help immediately, the following resources are available:

    • Aspen Pointe www.aspenpointe.org 719-572-6100
    • Peak View www.peakviewbh.com 719-444-8484
    • Colorado Crisis Services Support Line 844-493-8255
    • Colorado Crisis Services (text line) Text “TALK” to 38255

Future announcements about memorial services for the student will be made as more information becomes available, if the family chooses to share these details.

In respect to the family’s privacy, we are unable to release any additional information at this time. Thank you for your support of our students and staff. Please let us know if we can provide further assistance.

We are standing beside you during this difficult time. Thank you for your trust and understanding.

    Sincerely,

    Steve Gard

    Principal, PHS

  • Temporary Lockout on FLC Campus Thursday, Jan. 16

Posted by David Nancarrow on 1/16/2020

    January 16, 2020

    Dear Patriot High School Families,

On Thursday, at approximately 2:10 p.m. a student on the FLC campus overheard a conversation indicating someone planned to come to the FLC campus and harm a fellow student. Campus administrators immediately notified the D49 Safety and Security team along with our law enforcement partners at the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office and initiated a lockout. Students and staff remained inside the buildings, and the schools restricted visitors, which follows our lockout procedures.

The safety and security team, in collaboration with EPSO, interviewed the student and determined there was no credible threat to the safety of the FLC campus. The Falcon Legacy Campus operated as normal under lockout status during the investigation and our students and staff are safe. The campus returned to normal status at 2:35 p.m., approximately 25 minutes after administrators initiated the lockout.

D49 thanks our law enforcement partners and encourages all of our staff, students and families to stay alert and report any suspicious activity. We’ll continue to be proactive and partner with local law enforcement to ensure a safe learning environment awaits every District 49 learner.

    Sincerely,

    David Nancarrow
    Director of Communications
