D49 Partners and Staff Honored for Creekside Success Center Transformation

School District 49 is proud to work with exemplary partners who share a commitment to service and the success of public education. D49 leaders and the Board of Education honored representatives of two Colorado-based firms and two members of Team 49 for their dedicated work to remodel and refresh portions of the Creekside Success Center during the Fantastic 49 presentation on September 10.

DLR Group architect David Riggs earned the trust of the project team through attentive listening and skilled guidance, turning their vision into a fully functional workspace. His precise attention to detail ensured that every element, from the structural layout down to the finest finishes, was tailored to meet staff needs. “As we move into our new space and carry on with our daily work, David’s guidance is seen in both big decisions and little details,” noted Dr. Nancy Lemmond, Deputy Superintendent and Executive Director of Individualized Education. “From carpet to structural layout and HVAC to signage and light switches, David’s attention to our needs makes the space a perfect fit for staff.”

Nunn Construction project superintendent Joe McCormick was recognized for showing steadfast commitment, routinely working long hours to keep construction on schedule and up to standard. Lemmond noted McCormick was always approachable and eager to answer questions throughout the process. McCormick also earned praise for assisting district staff with move-ins, bringing an upbeat spirit to the site, and even providing meals to show genuine appreciation for the team.

As Nunn Construction project manager, Kristen Reim directed site operations like a seasoned traffic controller, Lemmond explained, ensuring sub-contractors and supplies arrived right on schedule. She methodically handled extensive project documentation, including equipment specs and inspections, taking complete ownership of quality control, said Lemmond. “Kristen did whatever was necessary,” Lemmond added, “even making a phone call to the president of a company to keep the project on track.”

Facilities Project Manager Bruce Brown provided invaluable construction expertise, routinely exceeding his daily duties to guarantee project success. He served as an outstanding team collaborator by anticipating complicated challenges and keeping workplace disruptions to an absolute minimum.

Creekside Building Manager Kevin Roche demonstrated exceptional dedication throughout the renovation, offering key insights during meetings, relocating office furniture, and overseeing facility operations. His hands-on leadership and care for the Creekside staff made him an essential contributor to the project's overall success.

In a surprise addition to the presentation, D49 Superintendent Peter Hilts, honored Dr. Lemmond with a Fantastic 49 honor. He noted her active participation throughout the renovation process.

“The reason we have the right people here tonight is because she was everything that the other honoraries tonight could attest to,” Hilts began. “She was present. She was funny. She gave us lots and lots of pictures so we knew what was going on. She learned construction terminology, and used it relentlessly, and so I am very grateful and it is absolutely the case that Nancy Lemmond is fantastic for D49.”

“Board of Education and Superintendent Hilts, we would not be sitting in our newly remodeled Peakview Hall and working in our new workspaces had it not been for each and every one of our Fantastic 49 honorees,” said Lemmond in her closing remarks.

Festivities wrapped up with a ceremonial ribbon-cutting event marking the completion of the Creekside upgrades. In addition to the Fantastic 49 honorees, D49 welcomed President Marie LaVere-Wright, Superintendent Peter Hilts, Tyson Nunn, President of Nunn Construction and Dr. Lou Fletcher, D49 Executive Director of Joint Operations, to participate in cutting the ribbon.
