IVES Field Day had numerous games and stations including tug of war.

IVES annual field day is important to the school because it gives students a chance to showcase more than athletic ability, it gives them an opportunity to show the Flyer core beliefs.

The day (Oct. 9) started with two wrestlers hoping to make the next USA Olympic team. Kaylynn Albrecht and Vayle Baker spoke to all the students about their journeys.

“It’s important to talk to kids because I see what kind of impact I have on them, to be good people and to bring goodness to people around them,” Albrecht said.

The pair talked about the positive aspects of sports and sportsmanship.

“Sports can build character, values, and tenacity," Baker said. “When you do hard things, you grow.”

“We are strong in our sportsmanship,” Albrecht told the students. “That is exactly the thing that will help bring you to the Olympic Training Center. It’s the thing that will give you life-long friends.”

The championship wrestlers showed the students some wrestling moves, did a Q&A, and ended with hugs and high-fives.

“It’s critical to bring people in from our community,” said Principal Pam Holloman. “The Olympic athletes today were amazing because it gives our students what they can see for themselves in the future. It helps them imagine all the ‘I cans’ in their lives.”

From there, classes spread out through the school, the playground and the front lawn to play games, compete and have fun.

“Field Day is totally important to Inspiration View,” Holloman said. “It’s simply a fun day and school needs to be fun for kids. It supports all of our core beliefs, building relationships with kids, building those character qualities of empathy and sportsmanship, and following the ‘golden rule.’ It helps them develop and identify their talents and passions. It’s a great opportunity to excel and to experience things day and bond as friends. It’s also a good day because we get to invite the community and families to see why it’s important.”
