Gentry Goes to School

Meet Gentry, a first grader at Meridian Ranch Elementary School.  She was born with a rare genetic condition, Cornelia de Lange syndrome.

Her mother, Lindee Salley, was dropping Gentry off at school one day while singing a little song she came up with, ‘Gentry goes to school, Gentry goes to school.’  And at that moment she realized that Gentry starting school was a huge milestone that should be celebrated and shared.  

Lindee was inspired, then and there, to write a children’s book about Gentry’s experience.  

“I'm here to share her story so others can see what I have always known,” she says, “Children with different abilities are still children with dreams, joys and stories worth sharing.” 

When Lindee walked into MRES for the first time, she knew she belonged. 

“They were able to look past what some others are not able to. And see her as any child walking into the door.” Lindee continued, “I appreciate the staff that see her and love her, enjoy her and teach her to her abilities.”

Lindee’s book, “Gentry Goes to School,” was published in September last year.
