The Campus Hosts ICAP Career Day
The Campus hosted an ICAP Career Day to provide students a connection to understand how their studies in high school can impact their career choices.
“Today is all about helping students in their career path journey,” said Mike Masino, Choice and Success Advisor. “Through the ICAP Career Day we are really encouraging students to own their future. One of the ways they can do that is by taking advantage of the incredible opportunities we are giving them here at The Campus.”
The career day breakout sessions provided learning opportunities in several categories including: business writing, conflict resolution, public speaking, internships, interviewing, goal setting, job preparedness, personality traits, and YouScience.
The career fair in the afternoon brought in more than 40 different business professionals to talk about their jobs and career paths.
“They come from all different career fields,” Masino said. “We have everyone from a pilot, to a representative from the space defense industry, to an electrician, to a seamstress.”
Students had to prepare questions to ask the career fair participants to encourage interactions.
“This exposes students to lots of career paths and gives them the opportunity to talk to these professionals,” Masino said.
“It is super beneficial for students to meet professionals and see tangibly how the current pathways they are pursuing through school might turnout. They see how school matters and it makes it relevant,” said Nathan Pearsall, Principal, Pikes Peak Early College.
“Making the connections between school and real life is where this comes together today,” said Amanda Pethtel, Principal, Springs Studio for Academic Excellence. “We really dialed in the breakout sessions to make sure we are hitting all the skills that students need for their career paths.”
This is the fifth year The Campus has hosted a career day for students.
