Interpreter of the Year

Interpreter of the Year
Karla Giron award

Karla Giron was named the Educational Interpreter of the Year for the Colorado Registry of Interpreters of the Deaf.

Giron began interpreting in 1992 and has been a full-time Educational interpreter since 2005. She has worked in District 49 since January 2005. Though employed by Pikes Peak BOCES since 2009, she continued to be contracted D49.

Giron not only provided interpreting services to a large number of students over the years but also provides ASL access to Deaf parents at parent/teacher conferences, IEPs, and student performances due to being an NIC nationally certified ASL Interpreter.

Giron shares her outstanding skills almost every year by taking on an intern from Pikes Peak State College, this allows us to continually improve our pool of qualified interpreting subs and candidates to hire as needed.

The Colorado RID Educational Interpreter of the Year is awarded annually to an interpreter who exemplifies our work through their interpreting, advocating, professionalism and team work in the school setting.
