FMS Future Firefighter
Falcon Middle School eighth grader PJ Stewart already knows exactly what he wants to do in life. Just like his grandfathers before him, he aspires to be a firefighter.
Earlier this week, he spent a day with the Falcon Fire Department observing a team of first responders.
Deanna Siemsen, Choice & Success Advisor, set up the job shadow after PJ expressed interest in the possible career path. “The fire department has always been a really good business partner for us,” she said.
The FFD team also benefits from the relationship. “It's fun for us,” said Lieutenant Cody Finn. “To a degree, it lets us play with stuff on our engine that we don't typically play with on any given day.”
Finn explained that these types of observances are great opportunities for students. “You can leverage the insider knowledge to figure out how to get into that career field which is huge,”
What surprised PJ the most? “There’s a lot of water here. Something like 380 gallons. The stabilizers are insanely heavy, like 80 pounds.”
