Celebrating Initiative With January's Fantastic 49 Honorees
Amy Sanchez Martinez, Keira Teeples and Violet Carroll

District 49 hosted January’s Fantastic 49 celebration on January 16 before the monthly Board of Education meeting.

The first honorees of the evening were Violet Carroll and Keira Teeples, student body co-presidents at Sand Creek High School. They were nominated by Amy Sanchez-Martinez, SCHS Principal. Carroll and Teeples organized a zone wide blanket drive from families who receive support and services at the Ronald McDonald House. They continuously lead in ways that reflect their values of kindness, inclusion, and care.

“I really believe that if more people in the world were like Violet and Keira, the world would be a better place. I know I’m a better person because I have the chance to know them,” said Sanchez-Martinez. “Every single thing they do is to help someone, love someone, serve someone.”

“Every time Violet and I ever had a meeting with anyone, whether it was Mr. Horras or Mrs. Stewart or Mrs Sanchez-Martinez…we always left feeling supported,” said Teeples.

Ashlee Thorpe, Monica Rosario and Dr. Bridgitte Martin

The next honoree was Monica Rosario, District Behavior Support Technician. She was nominated by Dr. Bridgitte Martin, Falcon Zone Special Education Zone Coordinator, and Ashlee Thorpe, District Behavior Analyst.

Rosario demonstrates exceptional creativity and out of the box strategies when supporting students. She utilizes applied behavior analysis that is individualized based on the students’ needs.

“Monica is a walking ray of sunshine, and the kids always repeatedly ask for her by name,” said Thorpe. “She takes initiative every time she works with students and staff.”

Fantastic 49 is the district’s recognition program that celebrates fantastic staff, students, and community members before the board of education meetings. A sincere thank you to our sponsors, Air Academy Federal Credit Union, Dion’s, and to Texas Roadhouse.
