Fantastic 49 Honorees Kick off New School Year
District 49 hosted the first Fantastic 49 celebration of the new school year on August 8, 2024 before the regular monthly board of education meeting. Three students and three staff members were recognized for demonstrating excellence.
Falcon High School seniors Christian Bertholf, Cayla Newbill and Ashlyn Christianson were the first group to receive honors. The students were Brian Smith, Falcon Zone Superintendent, nominated the seniors. He explained that they were instrumental in planning the Falcon Zone staff kickoff in July, and that the student leaders engage with their peers on what it means to graduate as a Falcon. “They did a phenomenal job in helping to coordinate and lead the event this year,” he said. “They lead in a way that advocates for the student body at Falcon High School.
Rachel Jeffrey, Educational Technology Specialist, was nominated by Meghan Jannicola, Behavior Interventionist at Stetson Elementary. Her problem-solving skills have made her an invaluable resource. She is committed to enhancing technology, and has had a profound impact on staff during the onboarding process. "I can’t speak enough about her communication,” said Jannicola. "I’ve seen this immense impact Rachel has had in this district.”
The presentation concluded by recognizing Chante Rue and Ashley Gates, Instructional Coaches at Remington Elementary. Raquel Worf, fifth grade literacy teacher at Remington Elementary, nominated Rue and Gates. Worf says Rue and Gates lead by example, offering encouragement and feedback that makes staff feel truly valuable and heard. “They are superb in setting high expectations for the educators, and high expectations for our students,” she said. “They both exemplify positivity at our school."
