Transportation Staff Capture State Awards

Three employees from the District 49 Transportation Team earned miles of accolades at the State Road-E-O Contest at Colorado State University—Pueblo earlier this summer.

The State Road-E-O, organized by the Colorado State Pupil Transportation Association, provides an opportunity for school district transportation staff to compete in activities to showcase their skills and knowledge related to the transportation needs of students. The contest includes hands-on activities, problem-solving challenges, and a written test.

The special education team of Pam Page, driver, and Kayla Herniak, paraeducator, won 1st Place Special Education Team and Best Rookie Team.

Adrian Ionita, certified bus technician, won 2nd Place Overall and 1st Place in the Inspection Station Category.

“D49 Transportation team members prove time and again how dedicated we are at providing safe transportation for our students,” Jack Pietraallo, director of transportation, said. “It’s not just a job or career for them. They strive to be the best at what they do to serve our kids and community. Our entire district is proud of their outstanding dedication and performance, especially me.”

As state award winners, the D49 employees have earned a spot to compete at the national level. Ionita will test his skills against other school bus mechanics from across the nation this October in Denver. Page and Herniak will showcase their skills in serving students with special needs in November in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
