Skyview, Sand Creek Staff Love Where They Work
Two district-operated schools in District 49 made an elite list. Skyview Middle School and Sand Creek High School were selected as winners in The Gazette’s Best Workplaces for 2023. Skyview Middle School soared to a third-place finish in the large employers category (76-299 employees).
Skyview Middle School leadership attributed their award to staff committing first to building culture. “Our team has fostered a belief that everyone at SMS is charged with the responsibility to create an environment for students, staff and our community to be successful,” said Mike Wedor, Principal. “We focus on our relationships with each other. We truly understand the importance of prioritizing a positive work-life balance. In order to achieve this, we ensure that we stay focused and keep everything centered around our school culture.”
At Sand Creek High School, team members keep their eyes focused on students. “We believe that our school is the strongest choice for students to learn and grow, so they may be the best versions of themselves,” said Amy Sanchez-Martinez, Principal. “Our students are powerful young people who deserve the best, and our staff are the changemakers to get them there.”
The Gazette partnered with the Colorado Springs Chamber of Commerce to seek nominations and survey employees. Ninety-nine total organizations had substantial positive responses from their employees, designating them as a Best Workplace in the Pikes Peak Region. Only two other K-12 schools made the list, including GOAL High School, a public charter school in District 49.
