The Naglieri General Ability Tests (NGAT) are a suite of cognitive assessments evaluating verbal, nonverbal, and quantitative domains used by school districts for universal Gifted and Talented (GT) screening. Unlike traditional achievement tests, NGAT uses visual and nonverbal reasoning formats to evaluate how students think and solve problems rather than what academic content they have already learned. By minimizing language, cultural, and socioeconomic barriers, the assessment helps districts equitably identify high-potential learners across diverse student populations for advanced academic programming.
NGAT also supports D49's Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) best practices by offering a culturally and linguistically fair measure of cognitive reasoning, enabling educators to equitably identify students for targeted instructional tiers or advanced enrichment opportunities without language or background bias.
