In D49, every student matters and each student has their own, unique path to follow. Just like starting with a blank canvas, each artist begins their creation in different ways. In D49, we help each artist paint their own beautiful picture and we support them every step of the way.

%22EXPLORING%22 IN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL (K-5)

During elementary school, students are exposed to various subjects that help in building their knowledge base. As they continue to grow and develop, they begin to discover their interests and passions. Some of them may find themselves inclined towards arts, music, literature, writing, technology, sports, interacting with others, or any other activity. Along with academics, students also learn important values such as understanding and respect towards others. Teachers collaborate with industry experts to introduce students to the concept of career development and invite various guest speakers to share their experiences. To complement their learning, students are also taken on field trips to relevant industries.

Middle School ICAP Process

Students are encouraged to explore their career interests, aptitudes, and potential career paths.
Inform students and parents of career and college options during their high school experience that align with students' interests and aptitudes.
Prepare students with knowledge and exploration toward their academic, career, and work-based learning goals in high school.
Equipped student with the knowledge and experience they need to achieve their academic, career, and work-based learning goals during high school.

High School ICAP Process

Students attend ICAP meetings for group and individual advising.
By analyzing a student's ICAP data, we are able to offer personalized guidance and access to appropriate resources.
Prepare students for academic, career and work-based learning goals after high school.

Graduates of D49 are well-prepared to pursue their academic goals, whether it be attending a community college, four-year university, joining the armed services, or enrolling in specialized training programs. By engaging in internships during high school, students gain valuable project experience that can be showcased in employment applications, resumes, scholarship applications, and college admissions applications. From kindergarten through high school, D49 provides students with the tools they need to create unique personal masterpieces. The district's staff works tirelessly to ensure that each student has access to the right resources to turn their blank canvas into a beautiful and distinctive representation of their journey as they enter the future. YouScience is an online interest survey for D49 middle school and high school students that helps them understand their natural abilities and introduces them to potential career pathways. Students can ask their campus advisors about setting up an account on YouScience.

D49 partners with the Pikes Peak Business & Education Alliance (PPBEA) to help students explore careers through classroom presentations, site field trips, job shadows, informational interviews, and hands-on internships for high school credit. Students can set up their own "Marketplace" account to explore opportunities available on the PPBEA website. (PPBEA Marketplace)

Students can use Tallo to build a unique digital profile (resume) and store information about completed courses, accomplishments, projects, and work-based experiences. Tallo connects students to customized scholarships and enables connections to prospective colleges, programs, businesses, internships and job opportunities.
