BOE Supports Military-Connected Students

On Thursday, Dec. 4, 2025, the District 49 Board of Education publicly showed it's support for military-connected students and families by unanimously passing a resolution.

WHEREAS, today over one million Americans are bravely serving in the United States Armed Services.

WHEREAS, our men and women who are serving in the United States of America Armed Forces face many daily challenges, and are unable to to remain 'mission ready' while consistently worried about hurdles their children could be facing.

WHEREAS, military connected children face unique hurdles daily while exuding resilience to all that is coming their way.

WHEREAS, military kids require strength and courage to meet high family needs and responsibilities, as they too serve in support of the service member.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, the D49 Board of Education hereby publicly declares its strong support for military-connected students and families and its intent to achieve and maintain Purple Star School designation as a visible symbol of this commitment; and dedication to our military families and students.

1. Dedicated Military Liaisons: We commit to having a District Level Liaison and liaisons within our schools to serve as a single point of contact to provide information and advocacy for military connected students, to ensure all staff have access to training.

2. Peer to Peer Support: We commit to uplifting, student led organization peer support groups for military connected students, fostering a welcome and supportive environment for all students.

3. Academic and Enrichment Support: We commit to providing systems and processes for students, including military connected students, to remain steadfast in pursuing academic excellence and access to enrichment programing, while cultivating an involved community that supports engagement in school life, mutual respect and connectivity.
