• Parents/guardians of Patriot High School students, as you may have already heard, PHS will be altering our Friday schedules for the 2019-20 school year.  The details are listed below.

On Fridays, students’ class schedules end at 1:30.  Classes have been reduced by 10 minutes to allow for this shorter schedule.  From 1:35-3:05 will be ELO (Extended Learning Opportunity) for students.  Each Friday, from 1:35-3:05, two teachers will take turns skipping our weekly staff meeting to be in charge of supervising ELO (Extended Learning Opportunity) for students.

ELO is strongly recommended for students who have a D or F in any class to work on raising their grades.  Additionally, ELO is REQUIRED for students who owe time for attendance or disciplinary issues.  Missing a required ELO will be considered “defiance” and will require disciplinary action.  Students who are passing their classes and have no disciplinary/attendance issues may be allowed to go home early.  Unfortunately, the busses will NOT be able to pick up your student early and will still arrive at 3:05.  If you cannot arrange for early pick-up, your student is welcome to stay for ELO even if they aren’t required to do so.

During ELO, students must do one or more of the following:

    1. Students may work on any missing or failing work from any class.  Teachers will communicate to the ELO staff the specific details for each student.
    2. Students may work on any credit recovery (“study hall”) class that they have been assigned to.
    3. Students may work on their PAIRIN (advisory) assignments.
    4. Students may make up time for excessive tardiness or other disciplinary actions (“detention”).

Your student’s advisor and/or teachers will notify parents each week to inform you if your student needs to attend Friday’s ELO for that week.  Please ensure that we have accurate phone numbers and/or emails to make this communication more efficient.

     “FLEX Fridays” - 8/23, 9/27, 11/8, 12/13, 1/31, 2/28, 4/17, 5/15

There will be 8 Fridays designated as “Flex Fridays”.  These days are designed to allow for intensive tutoring for failing/struggling students and to provide fun “clubs” that have grown to be a tradition here at PHS.  During these special dates, the students will be REQUIRED to attend tutoring time with ALL teachers whose classes they aren’t currently passing.  Each teacher will have at least 3 of the 6 periods tabbed for “tutor time” and up to 2 periods tabbed for “special clubs”.  Students will be allowed to attend clubs ONLY if it doesn’t interfere with their required tutoring.  Clubs will meet for 90 minutes (2 consecutive periods) and will be scattered throughout the 6-period schedule.

Like other Fridays, the 6-period student schedule will end at 1:30 and ELO will be held from 1:35-3:05.  The same rules apply for ELO on Flex Fridays (extra help and/or detention for attendance and behavior issues).

If a student has no need for tutoring (because they are passing ALL classes) and doesn’t owe any detention time, they may attend as many clubs that they are interested in and, therefore, could potentially have a shorter day.  With parent permission, some students may choose to take the day completely off but ONLY if they are passing ALL classes and have no obligations to any of the scheduled clubs.  Once again, PHS will communicate your students’ required plans on these Flex Fridays early in the week.
